In 1921 the mayor's office of Villip am Wachtberg erected the memorial to commemorate those who died in World War I. The war memorial was inaugurated on September 18, 1921.[9] The architect was Franz Brantzky (1871–1945). In 1959, memorial plaques for those who died in World War II were added, created by the sculptor Hans Schweizer (1925–2005). Finally, in 1979, further commemorative plaques were consecrated for the fallen from the villages of Adendorf with Klein-Villip, Arzdorf and Fritzdorf. They come from the sculptor Titus Reinarz. The memorial has been the destination of the star procession from the Wachtberg villages every year since 1946 on Ascension Day. Traditionally, the horses are blessed in the closing service.

As a memorial to the many dead, such memorials or war memorials are still very important today. "Now, Lord, let your servant go in peace, as you said." However, the people who are commemorated here did not divorce in peace, but became victims of war and tyranny.

Many of the places and monuments that you come across along the way are evidence of the horrors of war and tyranny, which is still relevant and relevant today. They all have two essential functions, and this for each new generation:

-1- Commemorate and remember the victims

-2- Remind to keep the peace
