Nýibær, which means 'new farm', is a historic peat farm located in Holar. It was built in 1860 by the preacher Benedikt Vigfússon for himself, while the old farm was still standing and left to his son. Since 1956, Nýibær has been under the care of the National Museum of Iceland, as it is a beautiful example of the area's traditional architecture. The peat farm underwent a major renovation between 1997 and 2000. It's a fascinating piece of history that provides a glimpse into life in Iceland in the 19th century.
