Peasant women from Brabant do odd jobs as castles
At the beginning of the 19th century the "goeikamer" in many a Brabant farm was the domain of the men from the neighborhood. At least, on Saturday, when the weekly wages are paid, and on Sunday after the church. The men come for a glass of fermented beer, a chat and who knows for a (clandestine) drink. The mixed farms are often not large, but due to the combination of café and dairy production, the farmers' families are likely to be able to get along pretty well. Women and children rarely show up in these cafés - at most during the fair. But now the door of this typical Brabant long-walled farmhouse is open to everyone.
Placed here in 1957. Interior: around 1900.
