The equestrian statue is reminiscent of the founder and promoter of the city as a health resort whose name carries the city.

The bronze statue of Emperor Francis I, dressed in the historical coronation regalia of Bohemian kings, was ceremoniously unveiled on June 7, 2002 in front of the Park Café (Sadová kavárna). It's about the cast of an original that stood on the Smetana Quay in Prague until 1918, before it was installed in the National Museum. The Františkovy Lázně equestrian statue was cast by master Pavel Horák in collaboration with the sculptor Olbram Zoubek.

The equestrian statue of Franz I was erected on a high pedestal in a representative location in the city park, where Schwanthaler's monument to Franz I previously stood, which was moved to the Isabellen Promenade in 1989.
