Plaza de San Diego is one of the most charming and lively places in the historic old town. It is located in the San Diego neighborhood of the same name and is known for its relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere.
The square got its name from the adjacent Convento de San Diego, which was built in the early 17th century (approx. 1608-1625).
Over the centuries, the site served, among other things, as a slave market, prison, navigation school, and even an electricity plant before becoming its current cultural center.
