Across from the back of Colditz Castle, a ruin peeks out from high up between the trees. However, it did not have the function of a fortified castle, it was a kind of gazebo for the lords of the castle. It must have been an arduous journey as the families of the court descended from their chambers through the palace gardens on the other side of the steep hill with its many steps. Small gates with seating for a short rest were set up on the big staircase along the way. Stones were broken a few meters away, piled up to form terraces and filled with topsoil. This had the best conditions to create a more profitable viticulture with the sunny location that overshadowed the previous location on the wall of the park. If you go to the Hainburg Castle, which was designed as a ruin, you can quickly understand and enjoy the wonderful view of the back of the castle, which the nobles reserved for themselves back then. The Hainburg was not set up for long-term overnight stays, it only had a living room with a kitchen and small utility rooms. The building can only be viewed from the outside. The stairs to the viewing platform were probably dismantled for safety reasons.
Still worth a visit!
