With its high bell tower, the Romanesque church of San Nicolò, together with the Dogana Veneta, marks the old port of Lazise and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town.

The parish church is dedicated to San Nicolò, patron saint of fishermen and sailors. It is in Romanesque style and dates back to the end of the 12th century.

During the renovation in 1953, various frescoes and paintings from different periods of the Renaissance were discovered, such as the oil painting behind the altar and the Byzantine image of the Virgin Mary in the external tabernacle, a gift from the Tabarini family to the Confraternity of San Nicolò.

Impressive church with exposed/restored wall paintings from the 14th century. The most famous of all is the nursing Madonna on the left wall. There is also a historic baptismal font made of stone in the harbor church, which was extensively restored a few years ago. Saint Niccolo (Nicholas), after the small chapel-like church was built on the southern harbor quay, was considered the patron saint of sailors, which underlines the importance of Lazise as a harbor in the Middle Ages.

You notice that you are in historic walls here. In the midday heat, the place provides valuable cooling. An interesting place!
