Porta Superiore, commonly called Porta San Zeno, was once the only functioning entrance gate. To control access, there was a guard post where the capital with the Madonna is today. Before you arrive at this gate, we recommend that you stop so that you can clearly see that the gate tower is lower than the rest of the walls. Now you will ask yourself why... After the Visconti, together with the Gonzaga, won the battle against the Venetians in 1400, they wanted to demonstrate their superiority by lowering the main gate of Lazise to humiliate them.
