The tank traps were part of the Atlantic Wall defences. "It is now a beautiful piece of nature, but we have not yet told this piece of Petten's history."

It is now a nature reserve, but during the Second World War the lake served to get tanks stuck. The village of Petten was almost demolished to be able to build defences. The Germans feared that the Allies would invade via the coast.
