The parish church dates back to 569 and was built at the behest of Archbishop Agnello of Ravenna. The first inhabited center of Argenta developed around it.

Originally with three naves, it now has a single hall with a gable roof and a small bell tower, since the side naves were progressively submerged by the rivers filling up and by the accumulation of debris.

The marble portal is Romanesque and dates back to 1122, with allegorical representations of the characteristic activities of the months of the year on the sides; in the central lunette the Martyrdom of Saint George is described.
