Situated in the rolling inland of Andalusia, Setenil de las Bodegas looks like something straight out of a fairytale. The town is an extension of the beautiful Ronda valley in the Cadiz province and is surrounded by cornfields and olive groves. It mainly attracts visitors who drive the famous “Route of the White Villages”. Setenil de las Bodegas is one of the most unique of these, due to the whitewashed houses built under enormous hanging rock formations. It is an absolute must-visit!

At the edge of the road you have an example of a cave house. Many look out towards the village of Setenil, but here the lamp is on. Other houses are well hidden behind the trees. It is an exceptional example of a type of house called "rock shelter" which, unlike other semi-troglodyte constructions developed in Andalusia, does not excavate the rock, but limits itself to closing the rock face and developing the house lengthwise.
