This is the second largest lighthouse in Portugal (the largest is Barra, in Aveiro), measuring 46 metres high and with 213 steps on a spiral staircase. Its light beam extends for over 28 nautical miles, meaning it is visible from over 52 kilometres away.

The spiral staircase is 46 metres high, or 225 steps to be exact, but for those who are not in good shape there is a lift to enjoy the superb view that awaits you. It has an average light beam of 39 miles.

Inaugurated in 1927, the Leça da Palmeira Lighthouse (Boa-Nova) is still in operation today, despite being a monument of industrial archaeology. In the north, it was the first electric lighthouse to appear and in the past it was an air-sea lighthouse and the headquarters of a school for lighthouse keepers.
