Built in 1927, the Boa-nova Lighthouse is 46 metres high and is one of the highest in the country, at 57 metres above sea level. In 1950 it was electrified and in 1964 it was connected to the public electricity grid, controlling from then on the operation of the Quebra-mar lighthouses, the north and south quays of Leixões and Felgueiras, thus constituting the first remote control network installed in the country.
