From bollendorf.de/maria-theresien-stein-bollendorf The Maria Theresa Stone, erected in 1771, is one of the most famous cultural monuments in the Southern Eifel Nature Park. In the 18th century, Bollendorf belonged to the Imperial Abbey of Echternach, which was under the protection of Maria Theresa, the Empress of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and Duchess of Luxembourg. She arranged for a cadastre to be introduced, her lands to be surveyed and boundary stones to be erected. The Maria Theresa Stone, which also bears the Empress's coat of arms, the Austrian double-headed eagle, once marked the border between the possessions of the Abbey of Echternach and the County of Vianden, whose coat of arms can also be found on the stone. After the Congress of Vienna, which reorganized Europe's territory, two Prussian crosses were carved into the stone around 1815/16, since Bollendorf no longer belonged to Luxembourg but to the Prussian Rhineland.
