The memorial to the fallen at Landgraf-Philipp-Platz shows a kneeling man, his nakedness only covered by a loincloth.

The figure kneels on a plinth that is raised several times, which in turn stands in a stone circle that was planned as a water basin. The complex work was created by local sculptor Wilhelm Heidwolf Arnold.

While the body is aligned parallel to the street, the face is turned towards the site of the fire, looking downwards. There is a soldier's helmet on a small plinth. The powerful figure seems to want to rise at any moment. This impression is reinforced by the inscription on the plinth on the front: "Upwards!".
