The Tote Moor is an approximately 33 km² large moor in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony. It is a partially peated raised bog with smaller areas of low moor. The moor in the area of the Hanoverian Moorgeest borders on Neustadt am Rübenberge, Eilvese and the Steinhuder Meer. Regulated extraction of peat by peasant hand-cutting began in the middle of the 18th century, industrial peat extraction began at the beginning of the 20th century and continues to this day. Parts of the moor are under nature protection.
