"Between 1940 and 1945, the Hunswinkel labor education and concentration camp was located in the Valley of Verse below this place. Of the many thousands of prisoners from the Soviet Union, Germany, Poland, Belgium, France, Italy, Yugoslavia and the Netherlands, at least 550 were killed by starvation, hard labor and shooting.
