The Gerarda bicycle bridge is part of the F4 bicycle highway between Antwerp and Ghent.
The bridge was named after former cyclist Gerarda Van Steenlandt from Nieuwkerken, who is also one of the earliest sports figures in the sub-municipality. In the period between 1927 and 1934, Van Steenlandt created a sensation as a cyclist on both the road and on the track. She achieved about fifty victories and won, among other things, the Championship of Flanders.
