31 steps from the Holy Sepulchre Chapel - this corresponds to the dimensions of the holy sites in Jerusalem on a smaller scale - the crucifixion group was created on Calvary under a canopy. For a long time, the passion of Jesus Christ was commemorated at this site.
There was a large Good Friday procession from the Lahn Bridge to Calvary and an Easter celebration in the Holy Sepulchre Chapel, similar to the one in Jerusalem.
The crucifixion group:
The pointed-gabled canopy structure with its lintel arches is supported by twelve columns and pillars and protects the late Gothic crucifixion group.
Mary and John stand at Jesus' feet. To Jesus' right is the cross of the thief Dismas, to his left that of Gestas.
