    Hiking

The hiking trails around the Embalse del Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir are an ideal day trip destination. The best time is from September to May; in the summer months it is too hot, so the lake is more suitable for swimming. The circular trail leads through a short tunnel to the shore of the reservoir and then along the lake to the dam of the Rio Guadalhorce. This is also where the northern entrance to the Caminito del Rey is located.

It was built between 1914 and 1921 by the engineer Rafael Benjumea. It allows hydroelectric power to be generated from the Turon, Guadalhorce and Guadalteba rivers. Next to the dam there are two benches and a stone table on which King Alfonso XIII signed the completion of the work on the reservoir and named the lead engineer "Conde de Guadalhorce" for his great achievements in the huge project.
