Cycling

The canal connects the districts of Rothenburgsort and HafenCity. A two-lane car-free bicycle path was created on its north bank in 2011 as part of the increase in flood protection systems. It offers spectacular views of the Port of Hamburg and the North Elbe. The canal passes under several car and train bridges on which enormous traffic rolls towards Germany and southern Europe.

The Oberhafen Canal is tide dependent and falls dry on its edges during low tide.
