On the peninsula, where the Schwartau flows into the Trave, the Liubice settlement was around 1,000 years ago. It was lived and traded there for a couple of hundred years until it was destroyed in 1138. It was not rebuilt at this point, but six kilometers downstream. A castle was built on what was then the peninsula where the castle gate is today. Today's Lübeck emerged from it.
To get to the old settlement, you go through a high belt of reeds.

The memorial chair stands on a slight elevation, there you have a beautiful panoramic view with a lot of water. You can also walk around freely in the area, the paths marked are only well-used trails. Not to be underestimated is the tall reed grass on the approach to the site. Despite good signs, you suddenly find yourself on a narrow path that can be quite muddy after rain. The reeds do the rest and give off a lot of moisture to the hiker as they walk through it after the rain. - This may be more difficult in late summer with the particularly high vegetation than at other times of the year.

very nice and quiet location with a memorial stone - directly on the banks of the Trave are small beach areas for a break
