The late medieval St. Stephen's Church in the center of Echterdingen was first mentioned in a document in 1185. The foundation stone of the church tower was laid in 1439. However, the neo-Gothic church tower spire was only built between 1880 and 1888. The tower is 54 m high. There are 173 steps to climb to get a great view over the Filder. The late Gothic high choir was built in 1508/1510 from stones from Echterdinger Castle. The choir windows depict scenes from the Passion story. In the back there is a Weigle organ from 1984. In the front part of the choir there is the altar from 1860/61
