The Martins Bank branch in Rothbury boasts a rich history dating back to the 19th century. Originally built by the Alnwick and County Bank, it was acquired by the North Eastern Banking Company in 1875, eventually becoming part of Martins Bank. Martins Bank itself was eventually subsumed by Barclays Bank in a wave of mergers across British financial institutions.
