The Cologne Fortress Museum in the Zwischenwerk VIIIB only opens every 1st Saturday and every 3rd Sunday of the month from 12 to 18 o'clock

The intermediate plant VIIIb is in the area of the military ring road junction. and Konrad-Adenauerstr./Heinrich-Lübke-Ufer in the Marienburg district.The throat barracks with caponiers are still well preserved.
The counter-karpen wall remained essentially untouched when it was razed, only the right flank was slightly damaged by bombs in World War II.
The roof was leveled, a rose garden and groves of trimmed plane trees were created there.
Today not much can be seen of the ornamental garden, only the trees are pruned and the grassy areas are mowed.Meanwhile, a fortress association (Crifa) uses the premises of the intermediate plant for historical tours.
They try to maintain and look after the plant on a voluntary basis.
Plenty of rubble and rubbish had to be removed in 2004 in order to make the intermediate plant accessible.
Furthermore, the bascule bridge was repaired and has often been shown to the public.
Unfortunately, the structure suffers from moisture penetration, this problem is not easy to get under control,
at least not without financial means. The city coffers are empty ...
