Starý Herštejn Castle Ruins

There is a legend about the castle: A knight from Friesland was looking for his wife Elsa in the forest and met a white doe. At this point he founded the Höhenburg. He then found his wife not far on the nearest mountain. That's why it's called Lissaberg.

Another legend: The wild Hans von Altenschneeberg once stole his beloved Eleonore von Frauenstein and rode with her to Hirschstein Castle. He had a clergyman brought from the Augustinian monastery in Stockau to be married in the castle chapel.
However, the fiancé Eleonores caught up with her and prevented this and destroyed the castle of Altenschneeberg. The wild Hans then went to the Schönthal monastery and donated his belongings to it. His tombstone is in the Schönthal church.
