The Tour du Guet is a historic monument in Calais and is considered the oldest monument in the city. The tower, which was probably built in the 13th century, originally served as a watchtower. Some sources suggest that the tower was part of the defense system built by Count Philippe de Hurepel.

In 1347, Jean de Vienne, the governor of the city, informed the inhabitants of Calais from this tower of Edward III of England's terms for the surrender of the city after a siege of almost 11 months. The tower has undergone several renovations and repairs over the years, including after an earthquake in 1580 that split the tower in two. Today, at the top of the tower, which is 39 meters high, is the historic blue and white flag of Calais.
