Between Hohenberg an der Eger and Selb, the Eger finds its way through a valley worth seeing. This section of the Eger is of natural and mining history as well as ecological significance and was designated a nature reserve in 1989. At the end of the 17th century, the "Wellerhammer" was built near Wellerthal, the largest ironworks for miles around. Since the beginning of the 20th century, three hydroelectric power stations have been supplying electricity.
