When Napoleon was finally defeated at Waterloo, England's rise to global power began. Now was the time for the Counts of Meerholz to adapt to English customs. Count Carl zu Büdingen-Ysenburg-Meerholz replaced the old parade ground with a botanical garden with exotic trees, from which an English-style landscape park stretched down into the Kinzigauen. The castle park, laid out around 1840, is freely accessible. His monument in the botanical garden was erected by the population on his 100th birthday.
