Very beautiful, quiet forest road on the northern edge of the Bannwald - very unspoiled forest landscape.

Bann forests are very interesting because they are allowed to develop without human intervention

On the Altdorf district is the silver sand pit, a 20 hectare forest, the subsoil of which consists of the hard sandstone slab of the Upper Keuper, the so-called Rhät. Above all, scouring sand was shoveled out here. In the Schönbuch, this layer of rock is the most widespread in Baden-Württemberg. The Rhät was sought in the past as an excellent building block and therefore used in quarries. In the spring of 1990, the area near the Bromberg was badly affected by the storm Wiebke. In order to be able to observe the natural reforestation of the storm surface in the long term, the "Silbersandgrube" was designated as a spell forest in 1993. Since then it has served as a research platform for various disciplines from several universities. (Source: naturpark-schoenbuch.de/entdeck/sehenswuerdigkeits/bann-und-schonwaelder/silbersandgrube/)
