The Europaweiher was dredged in 1968. When rust-brown liquid came to light in 1980, renovation was considered. In 1988, the city of Augsburg renovated the landfill from above for 60 million DM. From 2002, there were concerts on a lake stage at the Europaweiher, but it was not until 2009 that the Europaweiher became a bathing lake and the shores were prepared. Goldfish were initially introduced, but since 2017 there have been eels, perch, bream, pike, carp, rudd, tench, catfish and zander in the lake - a success story. In 2024, the construction yard set up untreated wooden sculptures on the lawns by the lake.

The Europaweiher is an idyllic pond on the northern outskirts of Gersthofen, Bavaria. It serves as a popular local recreation area for walkers, joggers and nature lovers. A circular path leads around the pond and offers numerous places to sit and relax. The water fountain in the middle of the pond is particularly noteworthy, giving the place a special atmosphere.

In the immediate vicinity is the jungle path in the Lechauen, a nature trail that leads through the floodplain landscape of the Lech and offers informative stations on the flora and fauna of the region.

The Europaweiher is also the starting point for hikes to the nearby Augsburg garbage mountain, which, after its renaturation, serves as a viewing point with a panoramic view of the region.

The Europaweiher is also interesting for anglers, as it is managed by the Gersthofen Fishing Association. However, guest cards are not available in the open market.

The Europaweiher near Gersthofen offers a wide range of opportunities for recreation and leisure activities in a natural environment.
