The history of the Brandes' pharmacy begins on June 26, 1792. The pharmacist Johann Gottlieb Brandes received the exclusive privilege from the Count of Lippe: "...to inherit the pharmacy to be built for himself and his descendants indefinitely..."
He set up the pharmacy in the half-timbered building built in 1620.
In 1819, his son, Dr. Rudolph Brandes, took over the management of the pharmacy.
