To protect this valuable habitat, the Biological Station launched its orchard project in 1995. Since then, with the support of interns and students, the orchards in the Herford district have been recorded and digitized using a geographical information system (GIS). More importantly, owners are advised, replacement and new plantings are organized, and tree care is provided during fruit tree pruning courses.
