The Skywalk adventure began in September 2016. That year, hotelier Gert Göbel and some business friends went on an excursion to Austria. On the way back to the bus, the Skywalk founding partners Arndt Brüne and Markus Wilke were so taken with the idea of a suspension bridge in the Upland that they started implementing the "Skywalk" project. They tinkered and planned, worked and tried things out. The plan soon became more concrete. In the summer of 2017, a project company was founded in which over a hundred private individuals and business people joined forces and provided the start-up capital. The local banks contributed the rest of the construction costs of around 4.5 million euros. Planning at the new Willingen location took about three years. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in January 2022 and the project gradually took shape. About a year and a half later, in July 2023, Germany's longest suspension bridge was officially opened and has since attracted numerous adrenaline seekers and active enthusiasts from near and far.
