St. Mary's Church is the parish church of the Protestant parish of Poseritz.
Construction of St. Mary's Church began after 1300. The nave was built first, and later, around 1450, the choir to the east and the tower to the west were added.
In the 18th century, the church received furnishings appropriate to the period.
The altar dates from 1703 and was made by Jacob Freese, and the pulpit was built in 1753. As in many Rügen churches, there is a confessional here.
During an interior restoration in the 1930s, the galleries were largely removed.
The church was unusable from 1986 to 1993. A major renovation began in 1988, which cost approximately 1.2 million DM by 1993.
The trusses and roofs over the nave and choir had to be replaced, the church's structural integrity was secured, and the masonry was repaired. The tower's stability was reinforced with steel anchors, and the dome was re-shingled with oak. The church is now awaiting interior renovation, which is difficult to accomplish given the parish's financial situation. Services are held every two weeks at 10:00 a.m., alternating between Poseritz and Swantow.
