The forest isn't flat, but undulating, with some really steep climbs here and there. Near Elst and Amerongen, you'll find ancient burial mounds – prehistoric mounds from the Bronze Age are scattered throughout the forest.
According to official sighting lists, there have been several reports of wolves sighted in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug in recent months. Runners spotted two wolves in this area in February. The animals weren't looking for a confrontation.
