On the hill behind the inlet of San Michele di Pagana creuze and paths intersect the access roads to the houses scattered among the gardens. There is also a marked itinerary, the Path of the Flemish, so called in reference to the works that some well-known Flemish painters left in the area, among which the painting 'Bernardo Orero in adoration with Saint Francis and Saint Bernard' stands out, a masterpiece by Anton Van Dyck which is located in the Church of San Michele di Pagana. This preserves other valuable paintings by Genoese painters of the seventeenth century, as well as two works by an unknown Antwerp painter of the sixteenth century which I personally find of very valuable workmanship. It is also possible to travel along creuze, paths and streets to go from Rapallo to Santa Margherita Ligure and vice versa, avoiding the busy (especially in the summer) Via Aurelia.

The route begins with the 17th-century canvas by Anthony Van Dyck, housed in the Church of San Michele di Pagana, and winds along the ridge leading to the Ruta Pass—an ancient crossroads to and from Genoa—through the village of San Lorenzo della Costa. Another majestic canvas, a work by the Flemish school of Memling, is preserved here, donated by Andrea della Costa to his native parish in the 15th century.

The opportunity to illustrate these two Flemish paintings offers an opportunity to recount and reveal the economic and commercial ties that linked the Republic of Genoa to Flanders for centuries.
