"The Schwarzer Graben is a 25.04 km long river with the code number 2792.[1] The stream flows from Drüpt in a northwesterly direction past the Menzelen towards Unterbirten and flows into the Old Rhine in the Bislicher Insel nature reserve. Several other streams flow into the Schwarzer Graben along the way.

The lowland complex is considered to be structurally rich, it is predominantly characterized by grassland, hedges and pollard trees.[2]

A project is currently being launched that envisages the discharge of rainwater from Borth via existing ditches, an overflow to the Schwarzer Graben and the creation of irrigation areas. In addition to flood protection, the aim is also to achieve natural development and an increase in the quality of life.[3]

The Schwarzer Graben lies within the Schwarzer Graben / Borthsche Ley landscape conservation area."
