The Paderborn-Haxterberg airfield is located in the landscape of the Paderborn plateau near a maximum of 244 m high hill called Haxterberg, which is located about 4 km (as the crow flies) south of Paderborn. It extends near the branch of the B 68 from the B 64 and not far north over the valley of Ellerbach, which is an eastern tributary of the Altenau. The name Haxterberg derives from the deserted village of Haxthusen, after the former noble family of Haxthausen named it, whose headquarters is the tower hill Haxterberg. There is also a great restaurant there!
