The Monument to the Gaucho honors "the" Uruguayan gaucho, his life and his contribution to the construction of modern Uruguay. It is a bronze horse sculpture on a pink granite base, created in 1927 by the Uruguayan sculptor José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín. The statue is located on Avenida 18 de Julio in front of the City Hall building in the heart of downtown Montevideo.
