The Palacio Taranco in the center of the old town was built at the beginning of the 20th century when French influences dominated Uruguayan culture. Completed in 1910, it was a private home until 1943, when the government acquired it and later converted it into the Museum of Decorative Arts. The collection is particularly rich in French and Spanish furniture.
Interesting paintings, especially portraits of the elite from Uruguay's golden age.
