The Winckelmannstraße leads to the Petrikirche, the oldest surviving church in Stendal. It could originally have been the church of the village of Wusterbusch, which the Margrave transferred to the town of Stendal in 1281. Before 1300 it was said to be outside and then inside the city walls. The first building from around 1250 was made of field stones. A Romanesque arched gate on the south side of the chancel has survived from him. The High Gothic brick building was then built around 1300 using field stones for the choir. The spire with its four dwarf turrets dates from 1583. The church has a brick rood screen built in the 15th century.

The church was probably built in sections in the brick Gothic style in the period after 1285, with the chancel being completed in 1306 in fieldstone masonry.
