The Daisho-in Temple is one of the most important temples of Shingon Buddhism and is located about halfway to the summit of Mount Misen. Among other Buddhist works of art, the Daisho-in Temple is best known for its over 500 unique Buddha statues, which can be found in the garden along the stairs to the temple. Each statue has a unique facial expression and some wear a red or green knitted hat.

The temple is the 14th on the Chūgoku 33 Kannon pilgrimage.

The Reikado Hall in the temple complex houses the Eternal Flame, which was personally lit by Kobo Daishi 1,200 years ago and has never gone out since. It was used to light the Peace Flame in Hiroshima Peace Park. Twice a year (April 15 and November 15) a fire walk takes place at the temple, where monks and volunteers can walk over hot coals.
