The Prether Bach has its source as a Schwalenbach in the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park in the North Eifel on the Hollerath plateau. The source is located about 1000 m southwest of the village of Schnorrenberg, 1.6 km southeast of the village of Schwalenbach and 5 km east of the Belgian border at about 641.5 m above sea level.
