Atonement cross or murder cross is the name for a stone hallway cross that was erected to atone for murder or manslaughter. Atonement crosses are atonement stones in the shape of a cross. Atonement crosses were usually located on paths and crossroads. Some stone crosses have weapons (crossbows, axes or similar) carved into them, possibly the murder weapons.
