Built on an artificial elevation of the land, on the previous sanctuary probably destroyed by a fire, it has a pediment and a Doric frieze on the façade, decorated with metopes set in the sandstone, on slightly slender Doric columns.[1] The structure is simpler than that of the two temples dedicated to Hera (called "Temple of Neptune" and "Basilica"): it has the pronaos and the cella but lacks an adyton, or the treasure chamber at the back of the cella.

Conceived following an innovative scheme of balanced proportions, which translate into the ratio of 6 frontal columns and 13 lateral ones of equal size and shape, the sanctuary presented a sumptuous polychromy.
