The Mansion, together with the Church of Our Lady and Saint Leodegarius, dominates the spacious village square of Bornem.

The yellowish sandstone and architectural concept may mislead you and suggest a medieval origin, but this building is much more recent.

In the Landhuis you will find the tourist information office, the council chamber, the wedding hall and the municipal archives.

The original “Landhuys van Bornhem” was built between 1781 and 1783. The building was used as a town hall. The construction of the Council House cost approximately 7,600 guilders. The then neighboring municipalities of Hingene and Mariekerke helped pay the costs, but Hingene was not very happy with this and started a lawsuit.

The building was demolished in 1913. One year later, in 1914, construction started for the current Mansion. Edward Careels was the architect of this. Due to the First World War, construction work largely came to a standstill and the building remained without a roof for a long time. The building was not inaugurated until 1925. The country house was used as a town hall until 1961. Until 2022, the Bornem archives were kept in the country house.

Together with the Church of Our Lady and Saint Leodegarius, the Manor House dominates the spacious village square of Bornem.

The yellowish sandstone and the architectural concept may mislead you and suggest a medieval origin, but this building is much more recent. It was built in 1913-1914 in neo-Flemish Renaissance style, based on a design by provincial architect Careels. The construction and finishing were considerably delayed by the outbreak of WWI.

The year of construction is stated on the window frame of the second floor of the tower. The manor house was inaugurated as a town hall in 1925 and served as such until 1961.
