Almost 10,000 Japanese cherry trees stand on the former Berlin Wall strip and other selected locations. Here on the avenue between Teltow and Berlin there are 1,100 trees. They were planted between 1990 and 2010. The planting was initiated by TV-Asahi, a large Japanese television station, out of joy over German reunification. The planting was financed by donations from Japanese television viewers. More than 1 million euros were raised.
