The Geleitstein is located in the valley of the Frieda, a right tributary of the Werra, between the villages of Frieda and Großtöpfer.
The escort stone near Frieda, which was erected in the 16th century, is the only known one of its kind in Hesse. It marked the place where the escort through the Hessian landgraviate ended.
