Around 1163 there was a Romanesque wooden chapel in the village, which, like today's parish church, was consecrated to St. Mauritius (patron of the Niederaltaich monastery).

Today's church is an important work of the late Gothic and rises with its mighty west tower on today's church square. Originally the churchyard was around the church. During the Reformation, a second cemetery was created by the Reformed outside the village. After the Reformation, only the new cemetery was used. The old churchyard was abandoned and today's church square with the fountain was created.

The church, dedicated to Saint Mauritius, was originally also dedicated to Saint Godehard and is located in the eastern part of the village on the church square. A chapel was mentioned in a document in 1163. It was incorporated into the St. Florian Monastery and was a branch of St. Michael in the Wachau until 1239.

If you look at this vineyard, you get an idea of how physically strenuous wine growing can be.
